Celebrating Exemplars
at Bulong Pulungan

MORE than the usual raffle, games, and musical performances, the Christmas celebration of Bulong Pulungan was highlighted by the awarding of people whose single acts have made the country a better place.
They were aptly called the Exemplars and they include no less than the First Couple, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.
Here are the impressive few who made the list and their citations.

Exemplar Awardees
Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Nonoy Libanan, for his sterling performance as head of the Bureau of Immigration, transforming it to a disciplined, lean, modernized, transparent, and effective guardian of the gateways to the country.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus,
for focusing on developing education
to fight poverty.
Congresswoman Cynthia Villar, for championing the rights of women and children and empowering them through livelihood and environmental projects.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Alfonso Cusi,
for his efficient management of the
country’s premiere airports and getting
NAIA 3 operational.
CNN Heroes awardee Efren Peñaflorida, for showing how heroes emerge from ordinary citizens.
Joey Concepcion, for his advocacy of entrepreneurship for everyone.
Ricky Reyes, for successfully creating a beauty and leisure empire built on dreams, sacrifice, and hard work.
Information Secretary Cerge Remonde, for always being a true, caring, credible media professional in a hazardous job environment.
Edu Manzano, for his advocacy against child pornography in the Optical Media Board.
Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya, for shepherding the national budget.
Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, for successfully managing the rice crisis.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, for continuously bringing tourists in and in significant numbers.

Hall of Fame
Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) General Manager Lilia de Lima, for consistently maintaining the world-class investment climate and service in all PEZA-administered economic zones.
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, for upholding the rule of law in local governance.

Special Leadership Award
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, for steering the Ship of State steadily in turbulent political, economic, and social waters; never losing her composure, always focused on bringing the ship safely to the shore.
